Om Nom Monday: Cheap, Easy Peanut Ramen

Holy shit, I haven't posted in for-fucking-ever. Sorry 'bout that guys... Anyway, where were we?

I was thinking about posting this recipe and then realized it's Monday and didn't have to wait and risk forgetting to do it. Imagine my relief.

So everyone knows that Ramen noodles are a staple for college students and really anyone on a budget. Christ, it's cheaper than the water you cook it in. But the flavor packs contain ungodly amounts of sodium and get kinda old after a while, so I went on a mission to discover a way to make this cheap cuisine palatable again. (I also found cute pictures.)

I remembered this Chinese restaurant that my family used to frequent and they had these cold sesame noodles that were just fantastic and tasted like peanut butter. I did some scoping around on teh interwebz to see how difficult it would be to make said peanut/sesame sauce. It can get pretty complicated and include pricey ingredients, but I boiled it down so that someone on a budget could easily make it.

1 brick of ramen noodles (Flavor doesn't matter)
a big spoonful of peanut butter (Yea, we're gettin' real technical here with our measurements)
about an equal part water, depending on how thick or thin of a sauce you want
a little soy sauce (Don't go crazy with it, you can always add more)
a few splashes of lemon juice
about a teaspoon of sugar
a couple shakes of garlic powder

The last four ingredients are really to your tastes and I've never actually measured them out (maybe I should, though I always end up adding something after tasting it). I get everything just right every now and then, but you really have to just play with it. If you get it perfect and happen to measure it, let me know. You can also add something spicy if you're into that, like chili powder.

Anyway, cook the noodles and drain the water out. Save the flavor packet for later or toss it. While your water is boiling and noodles are cooking you can whip up the sauce. Put everything in a bowl. Microwave it for 20 seconds or so. Mix it until it's smooth then taste and adjust your flavor as needed. When the noodles are ready, dump the sauce on them and mix it up, then dump it back in your sauce bowl. (That way you have fewer dirty dishes and you don't have to stress about getting all the sauce into the pot of noodles.) Then if you like you can top it with something to fancy it up like green onions, crushed peanuts, bacon, whatever. I've also added chicken to it and made a real meal out of it.

Well there you go. Let me know what you think of it.

EDIT: I don't know why I ever thought this recipe would be ok without sesame oil. Yea, it was "ok". I found some sesame oil in my friend's pantry and used a few splashes in the sauce tonight. I'll never make it without the sesame ever again. Buy some.

Om Nom Monday: Honey Dijon Chicken

I found this recipe in the Best Ever 30-Minute Cookbook which I got from my roommate for Christmas. It's not your average quick-and-easy type cookbook. They're really simple recipes, but very impressive at the same time.

I've already packed up the cookbook and brought it back to my parents' house because I'll be moving into my friends living room soon and can only take what I need, but the recipe goes like this:

Chicken thighs
Equal parts honey and whole grain dijon mustard (1 tbsp ea / thigh)
Salt and pepper to taste

Salt and pepper the chicken thighs. Mix honey and mustard together and glaze chicken with part of the mixture. Put in the oven at 400F (the book says 375, but that didn't do it for me) and set the timer for 30 minutes. At about 20 minutes, brush the rest of the glaze on them and pop them back in.

They come out so yummy, almost like candied chicken. I wish I could find the picture from the cookbook, 'cause they look great too.

For a side dish with these babies, I absolutely recommend roasted potatoes and carrots. Throw in an onion, parsnip or any other root vegetables you have on hand; toss them with olive oil, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning; and put them in the 400F oven for 40 minutes. (When they come out sprinkle the Garlic Maple Pepper from last time all over them.) See? One oven for a whole meal. Put these in first then work on your chicken.

My life is taking a huge sigh of relief right now. I had my last exam for a class yesterday, and my final project for another class is due today. I just have to present my project today and take two exams on the 6th and the 10th and then I done with school forever. Om Nom Monday: Highland Foods Maple Pepper

This is an installment that I used to do on my old Live Journal. I like food, so I'm gonna write about it. I'll try to only talk about food that I have personally experienced, so I don't accidentally recommend something that tastes like shit.

For this week, I decided to not go for a dish itself, but something that is sure to make just about any dish even better: Maple Pepper by Highland Foods. It is a collection of seasonings made in Maine using pure maple sugar.

This stuff goes great on potatoes, sweet potatoes, veggies, any kind of meat, scrambled eggs, anything savory that you'd want to add that teeny touch of sweetness to. My favorite is the Garlic variation, but it also comes in Original and Habanero. I haven't been brave enough to try the Habanero yet.

They are a bit expensive at $5.50 for 3 ounces. Personally, I think it's worth it. The website also has a few great sounding recipes, like Pig Candy... Sounds promising :)

I hope this post leads at least one person to try this amazing product. I promise, you won't regret it. Highland Foods Maple Pepper gets 5 out of 5 stars.

I'm a big fan of good lingerie. I love buying it, wearing it and being sexy in it. J, on the other hand, could sometimes care less about it. At the moment, the only time we get to see each other for sexy time is at one of our parents' houses when I come home to visit. Our encounters are in our bedrooms either late at night or early in the morning. Every time I think to bust out the lingerie, we're either already cozy in bed or starting to fool around. It's an issue. I've come to terms with the fact that lingerie will probably have to wait until I'm out of school and we have a place of our own. Until then I'll just collect lingerie and enjoy it myself.

That said, a couple weeks ago I was feeling due for some new lingerie. I ended up picking out the gathered mesh bra and gartered skirtini set by Coquette from Eden Fantasys. I was a bit nervous about it because my experience with two-piece lingerie has been iffy at best. Bra cups have either been pointy or just lacked any shape at all. G-strings have dug in unflatteringly and bunched out in the front. I figured I would take a chance anyway.

When the set arrived to me, it was wrapped in a cellophane bag inside some hot pink tissue paper. Attached to one of the bra straps was the tag with a few pictures of a cute blonde wearing the set. On the back of the tag are the color, size (Small) and some icons for the washing directions, which also appear in a sewn in tag on the bra. I'll talk about those directions later.

The bra is made of foam-lined underwire cups. The outsides of the cups are bright red covered in black mesh that's gathered towards the bottom. On top of the cups are little frills of more mesh trimmed with red thread. They're about an inch at their widest point. The back strap is single-layered mesh and connects in the back with a double hook and eye closure with three settings. The shoulder straps are your average strappy material and are adjustable. Between the cups is a little red bow with the signature Coquette lips dangling from it. I might remove these, since the lips are kind of cheesy looking and my bow is crooked. The cups have a slight point to them, but I think it's because I don't fill them out all the way. (I'm not quite a B-cup.) Another critique I have is about the frills; I'm never quite sure what do do with them. When they're flipped up like the model wears them they look big and silly, but flipped down they look like a lapel. I prefer them flipped down, I suppose. It would be nice if they were a little thinner. The overall fit of the bra is, uh...tricky. The back strap feels loose, even on the tightest setting. I wear a 36B and usually don't have this problem. The shoulder straps also give me some trouble. When they're at a comfortable length, they pull up on the back strap, but if I loosen them, they slip off. I've tried a lot of adjusting, and there seems to be no happy medium. The bra can be worn under clothing, but the gathered mesh shows through some thinner shirts.

The bottom is a completely mesh g-string with a wide band top and a mesh skirt about 4 1/2 inches long. There are two little red bows at the hips. The red band covered in black mesh is only across the front. The garters attach to small loops inside the band. If the g-string stood alone, I'd be very disappointed. It's very narrow (only 4 inches wide) and does that bunching thing that a lot of cheap thongs do. Its saving grace it the rest of it. The band contains very little elastic and sits perfectly on my hips (36 inches) without digging in at all. The hem of the skirt hits about three-quarters down my booty. The string of the g-string is a bit too long, so I hike the back of the skirt a little bit if it bothers me. I do appreciate that it's not overly tight, so it can be easy moved aside. Tada! Crotchless panties! The bottom could be worn underneath a skirt, but pants cause the skirt to bunch up and probably wrinkle.

I don't think I'll be using the garters very much. They are adjustable and seem well made, but when I tried them out, they practically pulled the skirt off. They have good stretch to them while still maintaining their spring.

Some FYI points:
The set is made of 82% nylon and 18% spandex. The icons on the tags say hand wash and no tumble drying, ironing or bleaching. I machine washed them with cold water in a mesh laundry bag and hang dried them, and they were fine. Do this at your own risk, since that's not the recommended method.

I like this set a lot, despite its little quirks. It's sexy, comfortable, and of good quality. It would be nice if it came in an extra small, since the small will probably be too big for those smaller than me (size 6). I found the size chart provided by Eden Fantasys to be very accurate for me. Unfortunately, this set is now only available in green, which is fine if green is your color.

I think this would be a great set for just about anyone who likes two-piece sets and is looking for something flirty without a lot of fuss.

I'm sorry if I left some of you hanging with my last installment. I really appreciated your advice and words of encouragement. I continued with the program for another week after writing that post. Then I had spring break. Going home to my parents' house always throws my groove off. I can't even do something as simple as listening to a 30 minute relaxation track. So I got back here and was still thrown off. So I've gone over 3 weeks without the program.

I still occasionally feel what I think are growing pains. I think before I stopped my right breast started to grow a little, leaving them more uneven than before. I might start back up again and just focus energy to my left breast, see if that works.

Before I wrote this, I had planned to say that I still don't think I have time for the program and I'll pick it back up later. Then writing out my thoughts made me realize that I can't leave Lefty even smaller than Righty. With that, I have some hypnosis to go do.

I have to make this a quick post because I have studying to do.

I'm thinking of discontinuing the Hypnotic Body Program. Don't get me wrong; I love it and I can feel it starting to work, but I am so busy this semester. It's been really hard for me to make quality time for the program. Quality time being time that I'm awake enough to concentrate. That's when it really kills me, when I try to do it first thing in the morning or before bed and I can't focus; I take my head phones off knowing that my session probably did absolutely nothing.

I'm young. I'm planning on having kids someday. My breasts will grow then. I'm not getting rid of the program, so I'll have it when I want to try again.

Shower Sex, Minus the Awkwardness

One of my friends suggested that I write a bit about the Sex in the Shower line by Sportsheets, and since I surprisingly find myself with a little bit of time on my hands, I will do just that. So sex in the shower. An amazing concept, but it never works well in practice. Sophie reviewed both of them, and as you'll see for yourself, she favored the dual cup to the single. I'm on Jimmyjane's mailing list. Ya know, why not? This morning I woke up to an email linking to a video about the Little Chroma and Little Something vibrators. I've spent over $130 on crap vibrators. I winced when I saw the total. I could've bought one Little Chroma and still have it. Don't make the same mistake I did. My advice: Save up and treat yourself to one of these.

They last a long time, but she's getting ready to buy her 3rd in the five years I've known her. They run her about $50 each time. That's $150. (Sorry to use you as an example, Hun.) And maybe I didn't mention this (I did), but the Little Somethings last FOR EVER!

"But I bet the replacement motors are wicked expensive." That's what I thought too. Not so. They're only $20! You buy one amazing (albeit expensive) vibrator and when it dies, replace it with practically a new one for $20!

So yea. You'd think after reading this that I actually own one. Not yet. I'll kill all the crap vibrators I already own and then get one.

So I wanted to give an update on my first couple weeks of using Hypnotic Body's Breast Enlargement Program. In my first couple days, upon recommendation from True Pleasures, I emailed Anthony, the creator of the program to get a suggested schedule and any other tidbits of wisdom. He was extremely timely about getting back to me, and we exchanged half a dozen emails throughout the first day. He set me up with a schedule for the first 5 weeks, and told me "the rules". He said no shelf bra camisoles. This is fucking killing me, because I'm used to wearing one pretty much every day under whatever shirt I'm wearing. I've only cheated once. Otherwise, when I'm at home, I try not to wear a bra as much as possible. He also said to eat 2 tablespoons of ground flax a day. I know this is because they contain omega-3 fatty acids, but it's another killer 'cause I had just bought two giant bottles of fish oil the day before. I take 3 capsules of that a day, which comes out to 900 mg of omega-3's. I know this isn't as much as I should be getting to support this kind of cell growth, so I might just suck it up and buy some flax seed when I have time to go to Trader Joe's.

Obviously, I have no changes in the size of my breast yet. That won't start for a few more weeks. I am starting to feel a difference in them, though. It's hard to describe. It's like a humming almost, sometimes almost an aching. Very cool though.

That's all I have for right now. I'll let you know in a couple more weeks how things are going.

I love doing TMI Tuesday, but I always find myself too busy on Tuesdays to actually do them. So for this week, I refuse to miss out again and I'm doing it right now.

After reading a review over at True Pleasure's blog for Hypnotic Body, a hypnosis program that can make your boobs grow. I know, sounds crazy, but check out her pictures. That is significant.

In my past, I've never been completely satisfied with the size of my breasts. I'm a 36A, though I wear a 36B that I don't fill out (I'm in denial). My goal is to fill out my 36B bras. I absolutely think I can do that with this program. The mind has so much untapped power.

So after going back and forth about whether to buy the program, and talking to my sister about it, I decided to just go for it. So I was bored at work last weekend and read this article in Drug Tropics magazine. I was reminded of it this morning and felt like sharing it. I don't mean to offend anyone; I'm just sharing the truth. I'm really upset by the obesity epidemic in America, really upset. I work in health care and see patients all day when I'm at work, so many of them obese and overweight. Why are they being told that it's ok to be obese? It's not ok. It will kill you. Being obese causes so many preventable conditions: diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, (all which lead to heart disease, heart attack and stroke) erectile dysfunction, arthritis, fatigue, insomnia, sleep apnea, gall bladder disease, depression, breast cancer, colon cancer. Should I go on? I probably could. Don't care if you die? Ok. Do you care about the burden put on the American health care system? Quote from the article: "In 2008, $147 billion of our total health care expenditures went to treat diseases caused by and associated with obesity. That is $50 billion more than we spend on cancer." Maybe that doesn't mean anything to you, but that means a lot to me as a health care professional. I can guarantee you that $147 billion is not being paid out of pocket by the patients themselves. The insurance companies, Medicare and Medicaid pick most of it up. And where do they get the money? People pay in. And the more expensive it is to insure patients, the more people have to pay in, driving the cost of health insurance, and health care in general, up.

I'm not writing this to be a jerk. I'm writing this to scare people, to wake them up and see that obesity is a killer. Losing weight is hard work, but it can be done. Don't feed into all those dumb gimicky diets. All it comes down to is calories in vs. calories out. Cut out the soda and junk food. Replace it with fruits and other whole foods (Hell, I'll even condone diet soda for this one). Take a walk. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. It's a simple concept. A site I highly recommend if you're trying to lose weight and are frustrated and not getting anywhere is The Daily Plate. It's free to sign up and so simple to use. Just put in some information about your body and how many pounds you want to lose a week (stick to 1-2, no more than 2), and it tells you how many calories you should eat every day. Then it helps you track your calories by having TONS of different foods to add to your plate. It's hard at first. Changing any habit is, but I did it and lost almost 40 pounds. I know if you really want to do it, you can.

Well, this rant went longer than planned, but I hope it's opened someone's eyes. If you have any questions about weight loss or healthy eating, I don't claim to be an expert, but I'm willing to give advice and support. I hope you don't think I'm a jerk.

So I love bacon. I don't get to eat a lot of it because I don't buy it because one of my roommates doesn't eat it and I like making foods that are enjoyable for every one. (Hellooo, run-on sentence! Sorry, it's my blog; I'll write how I think.) So my non-bacon-eating roommate was gone for a couple days, so my bacon-eating roommate and I decided to buy bacon and cook with it. I had this recipe that I'd been dying to try and finally had my opportunity. It's courtesy of Rachel Ray (who I know some people really hate, but I think she's amazing at what she does. Besides I couldn't come up with some of the food concoctions that she does, like this one I'm gonna tell you about.)

Anyway, so here it is: Bacon Wrapped Chicken with Bleu Cheese and Pecans and smothered in a grainy mustard gravy. It's incredible. If you're ever in the mood for savory indulgence, try this one. So speaking of indulgences, the bacon got me and my fellow bacon-eater thinking about other amazing things we could do with bacon.

So last night I chopped some of the bacon up and pan fried it, then added some chopped up apple and let it fry a little longer so the sweet and salty flavors could marry a bit (which they did quite nicely). And then, get this. We put it on ice cream! Bacon apple sundaes! Amazing! Then I drizzled some maple syrup on top. Even better.

So I've decided to finish off the bacon we bought and then not buy it again for a very long time. Otherwise, I'll weigh 400 pounds by the end of the semester.

So all night I've been listening to one of my favorite new bands, Iration. They're all from Hawaii and basecamp out of Santa Barbara, CA. I got the chance to see them when they opened for another of my favorite bands illScarlett in Vermont back in October. Jared and I drove over there and as luck would have it, the motel we were staying at was right across the street from the venue, and next door to the venue was a bar. Excellent! So we went to the bar for a few drinks before the show. So we're sitting there and there at the bar are two guys that I swear are in Iration. I knew one was the guitarist, Micah...Big Hawaiian dude in the middle of Vermont? Hello. I was pretty sure the other was Joe, the drummer. So I'm grilling them like crazy, saying to Jared, "I think they're in the band. No! Couldn't be." So they notice me being a creeper and Joe's like, "Hey." And I go, "Hey. You're in Iration, aren't you?" He goes "Yea" and buys us shots of Jager.

So yea, really cool guys. They're gonna be in Vermont again next month. I can't make it to that show, but I'm going to the show in Boston. Here's the title track off their new album coming out in March. Their website has streams of 4 other songs off the new album and all their other albums too. Check out the Sample This EP...Incredible. They have so much soul.

Oh! and then Will , the guitarist from illScarlett (Billi, this is career-dreads guy...he was the guitarist though, not the bassist. My bad.) walks in and gives Joe and Micah high-5s, orders a gin and tonic (that means he's my soul mate), drinks it and leaves. This is the biggest reason I want to go back to VT to see Iration, cuz I know where they'll be drinking before the show. I'm a creeper.

1. Have you ever mooned/flashed anyone? How long ago?
I think my most memorable time was on my way to get my first tattoo about 5 years ago (5, really?! Shit, I'm getting old.) A friend was driving me and we were stuck in traffic kinda and we kept passing this real cute guy who was talking on his cell phone. One time we pass him and I go, "I wanna flash him." So, I've just been studying all day for my first of four finals. At least it's my only cumulative one and I'm getting it out of the way first. So no pic today, just the linking of my review.

I realized today that I haven't left my house since Saturday morning when I went to the grocery store to get bread and other necessities and I won't leave again until Wednesday morning when I go to take my exam. Ah, such is finals week. I become a shut-in, leaving my house only to take exams. At least I have work on Thrusday...Ha, funny when I think of going to work as taking a break.

To celebrate, I made a yummy holiday cocktail that I'll be dying to try out: the Eggnog Martini, which I found on The Nest.

2 1/2 oz eggnog
1 oz vanilla vodka
3/4 oz amaretto

Combine ingredients in shaker and shake over ice. Strain into chilled martini glass. Dust with freshly grated nutmeg or cinnamon.

I actually ended up adding an extra 1/2 oz or so of vodka, 'cause I like a little bite to my 'tinis. I used cinnamon as my garnish but it's a little pointless. It floats around in the middle... looks pretty though!

I think I need to tweak the recipe a little. I'd like to see the amaretto stand out a little more. Honestly, I'll probably just stick with putting spiced rum in my nog; it's easier and I like the taste better.
